Are you looking for natural ways to help avoid colds and flu viruses?
If you are looking for natural ways to combat colds and flu viruses, essential oils maybe the answer. Essential oils are oils extracted from plants and studies show they can be effective germ fighters. Many essential oils show promising results in killing various bacteria, viruses and staff. When looking for soap it is a good idea to purchase bars with essential oils. Be sure that pure essential oils were used in the product as artificial fragrances (often listed as “fragrance”) offers no benefit and some even have unwanted health effects. We have a listed a few essential oils here:
Eucalyptus
Tea Tree
Peppermint
Thyme
Clove Bud
Citrus oils such as:
Lemon
Orange
Grapefruit
Lime
Cinnamon Leaf
Rosemary
Lavender
We have formulated our High Five Soap with the first 5 essential oils on the list. You can shower with it and keep a bar at every sink in your house. Prevention is best so always wash your hands before preparing food and eating. Frequent hand washing is always beneficial so if you have young children, always remind them to wash their hands and remember to wash hands after being in public places to avoid spreading germs around your home.

Buy American Made
Buy American Made -
Let’s face it. We shop till we drop and buy endless amounts of cheap goods and fill our homes with them only to find that we really didn’t need it to begin with or it doesn’t work or last very long or we simply tire of the stuff and it ends up in the landfill.
Have you ever wondered how we have gotten here and why you can hardly find anything made in America anymore? For starters, we just aren’t willing to pay our fellow Americans a living wage anymore. We are so accustomed to buying things made in other countries which are made by people willing to work a 16 hour day for a meal, or by children or even slave labor.
If you are old enough to remember when there was a relatively good amount of manufacturing in the US, we actually had quality goods and many of the things purchased in those days would last and I mean really last. Besides this, in many cases, only one income was necessary to sustain a family. For as long as I can remember, American’s have always had a sense of pride about them and American made goods have always had quality built right into them. But have you tried looking for something you need and set out to find it with a “Made in US” label on it? Many times this is merely impossible. So many of the manufactures which were vital to our economy in the past have now left the country. Why? It’s because American’s have spoken out with buying power and what they say is “we want an abundance of cheap possessions made by people who we don’t want to pay a living wage to. In all actuality, the dollar speaks louder than words. We purchase goods made by people who live in total poverty and we wouldn’t allow them to camp in our neighborhoods.
I am certainly not an expert, unless you want to give me some credit just for living on this planet for over 50 years but I suppose whether we are buying a car or anything else, we should let our dollar do the talking. We could really speak out for ourselves when we choose American made…when we can find it.
Till next time….

Natural Skin Care – Dry Skin?
I remember the days when I would bring a home a great smelling moisturizing soap I bought at a department store on a cold, dry, winter day, run a bath and try to soak away my dry itchy skin only to find that I felt worse after my bath than before and suffered that deep down-in-the-skin itch. I am not sure if it was the artificial fragrance, color or preservative or something else in those bars that caused it but I have never had that problem in years after discovering natural soap.
Dry winter air and central heating zaps moisture from your skin and may leave you with dry, itchy, irritated skin. Try these suggestions for preventing and treating dry skin:
- Liquid soap tends to dry skin more than bar soap.
- Hot showers tend to dry skin. Try turning down the hot water a bit when showering.
- Try soaking in the bath for a short time. While you soak, your skin is being hydrated.
- Apply moisturizers as soon as possible after showering/bathing while the skin is hydrated to help trap in moisture.
- Use moisturizers with little or no water in the ingredients. Many lotions and moisturizers list water as the main ingredient which is evaporated soon after applying.
- Avoid harsh soaps. Antibacterial soaps can be especially drying. Commercial soaps often extract the beneficial glycerin and add synthetics that contribute to dry skin. Try using natural soap.
- Adding lots of olive oils and other good oils to your diet aids in keeping skin moist and supple.
- Drink lots of water to keep your skin hydrated.
- Use a humidifier in your home.
- Wear natural fabrics such as cotton next to your skin. Cotton sheets are also a good choice. Synthetic fabrics (and wool) next to your skin can cause irritation.

Water Front Property in Southern Oklahoma

Our Pasture After 12 1/2 Inches of Rain 4/30/09

Driveway
04/30/09
When we moved to southern Oklahoma we had no idea we would live on water front property. After 12 1/2 inches of rain fell here yesterday, the pasture in front of our house is now mostly underwater as well as our driveway.
When we moved here several years ago we were in drought conditions and have remained that way for the largest part of the years that followed. I’m not sure if 12 ½ inches of rain is a record here but this is the first time in my life time I have ever seen that much rain in one day. I have a feeling this officially brings us out of the drought even if we don’t receive another drop of rain this year.
Happy Sailing!
